CD or DVD Boot problems on MAC

Published on 2009-03-15.

If you are new in the MAC world and wonder how to get your MAC to boot from a CD or DVD here is some information.

I presume that you have a clean harddrive and no OS is installed.

In general you have two ways to do it.

Hold down the C key while booting.

Hold down the Option key while booting, this will display all bootable devices.

If you need to reset the open firmware you can do so by holding down the Command-Option-o-f keys while booting. Then at the prompt type:

reset-nvram [return]
set-defaults [return]
reset-all [return]

[return] indicates that you press down the return key :-)
